What type of Lithium chemistry does DPS offer?

A: Delaware Power Systems does not manufacture battery cells nor sell battery cells.  We are electric vehicle system integration experts who offer one-stop-shop solutions for energy storage and electric vehicle applications.  Our IBP Technology creates an integration-ready platform using battery cells of various chemistries.  We consult with our customers on their varying requirements to choose the optimal cell chemistries for their applications.

Why do people ask for LiFePO4?

Lithium iron phosphate cells are in general more expensive; however, without BMS, it has an avergae lifecycle of 2000+ cycles.  Like NCM, it is commonly used in high discharge rate applications such as EV (including e-bike, e-scooter, and electric car), power tools, UPS, and energy storage systems. 

Is cobalt-based lithium-ion safe to use?

A:  There are risks associated with high energy density chemistry such as cobalt, but DPS’s IBP technology is just the right tool to ensure the safety of using NCM batteries.

• Isolation Protection at Cell Level: Minimize the effect of battery cell failure and prevent a chain reaction of thermal accidents.
• Solid-State Protection at Module Level: Each UBM is designed to be a solid block that resists rupture and deformation from impact.
• Insulation Protection at Pack Level: Constant software monitoring to ensure zero occurrence of overcharging or irregular current flow.  The pack is protected by contactors that cut off circuit when SCU detect problems.

What is the life expectancy of NCM Lithium-ion Battery?

A: On average, the cell manufacturer warrants anywhere from 500 to 750 cycles.  With IBP, we prolong the life expectancy of the batteries and extend our warranty to 1000cycles (2 year / 100,000km).  Extended Warranty is available upon customer request.

Does DPS have field test data?

A: Yes; we tested a 50Ah/48V(2xUBM5024) system on an electric scooter.  The test took 6 months, for a total of 15,793km.

Does DPS sell Battery Management Software(BMS) separately?

A: The performance, safety and warranty assurance only applies to DPS product when implementing IBPas a whole - along with BMS, thermal control and mechanical protection design. Therefore we do not offer BMS as an option to any customers.
